For the first time this season manager Andy Mc Gowan had afull strength squad to choose from with Chris Wood and the 2 Penns returning from holidays. With Pat Hollinger missing from last weeks starting line up at Marsden Woody came in the fill the gap up front with John and Jimmy Penn joining Mick Walton on the bench.
In a frustarting first half which wasn't much to shout about only a stunning strike from Woody on 40 minutes proving to be the difference between the 2 teams. Andy read the riot act at half time and Wibsey came out a different team in the second half. Having said that it was only a great save by Tom O'Hara when one on one which stopped Irish equalizing. That proved to be the turning point as Wibsey dominted the game through the last 30 minutes. First Woody latched onto a through pass before chipping the keeper for 2-0 and the introduction of John Penn down the right saw numerous crosses cause the Irish defence all sorts of problems. From one such cross Darren Storey volleyed home before Woody completed his hattrick for 4-0.
The second half was a joy to watch. Wibsey played some great football with confidence flowing through the whole team. Hopefully with everyone now back this will be a springboard to get the season back on track having lost 2 of the previous 3 games. |
