After last weeks cup defeat which ended an unbeaten run stretching back to September, manager Andy McGowan challenged the team to bounce back and secure 3 points against a struggling Ardsley team. Andy decided to give last weeks team the benefit of the doubt and resisted making wholesale changes, the only one being Chris Hanney coming straight in to replace the injured Cory Larvin. On a flat and surprisingly dry pitch which was a real credit to the home side, it was Ardsley who started the better putting Wibsey under pressure from the start. Ardsley missed a couple of half chances before Wibsey took the lead on 10 mins. A simple ball down the middle of the park was picked up by Mick Garnett who ran 30 yards and despite being under pressure all the way managed to eventually shrug of a defender before rolling a shot under the keeper. 15 minutes later Garnett did exactly the same again this time out wide on the right. Wally rolled a ball into his feet, Garnett turned lost a defender and slotted home around the keeper, another great finish. Credit to Ardsley, they hung on in and before half time created a couple of good chances which Tom had to be on his toes to keep out. 2-0 at half time.
Again Ardsley came out putting us under pressure. Tom was again called upon to pull of a couple of smart saves as Wibsey eased off and following one particularly good point blank save the boys got the message that they were still in a game. We began to get the ball down and play some decent stuff and look like a top of the table team. The game was made safe on 65 mins when following a corner and scramble in the 6 yard box, Woody lathed on to the loose ball to drill home from close in.
Andy immediately brought on all 3 subs and although Ardsley continued to battle on and go close on a couple of occassions we managed to keep a 4th clean sheet on the trot in the league. Final score 3-0.
All in all another good all round performance but one we will need to improve on when current Champions Bay arrive in town next week.
